Second Race : Eldora Indian Peaks Rally

Unfortunately I managed to get sick before this one… After detailed planning and early season course estimates, I still finished a good 30-40 minutes slower than predicted. I was able to warm up this time. Ran up the first part of the hill with no problem and felt decent going into the start. I set up towards the back of the corral and settled in for the race. We were released and within the first half mile I knew I couldn’t even maintain middle of the pack on this one. So back to the finishing mindset I went.

It was hard to breathe but it wasn’t that long so I knew I could finish. The bootpacks were rough, my feet were heavy, and my glide skins felt unusually sticky. Shortly after a of couple hours had past, I made it to the top and transitioned to the last downhill. Then after a quick ski and an euro-style uphill finish, I made it. Not last place but darn close.

I don’t know how or why I was so sick leading into this race but I felt the effects of barely being able to breathe for two+ hours.

Time to buckle down and make sure Sunlight doesn't feel like a repeat.
